Vetulonia and the Etruscans

Residence Park Solemaremma‘s apartments are located in the heart of Maremma. The old town of Vetulonia, one of the main Etruscan sites in the area along with Roselle and a witness to the ancient splendor of this land, is located less than 30 kilometers away.

For a long time the ancient Etruscan Vetulonia had been considered a legendary city quoted in some documents, without finding any trace of it in the territory. Only between 1840 and 1846, during excavations, the first finds came to light.

Nowadays, this old town of Etruscan origin is characterized by arches, vaults and narrow streets surrounded by old walls. The Etruscan Necropolis is located not far from the town: along Via dei Sepolcri, it houses great monumental tombs, the most famous among which are the “Tomb of the Pietrera” and “ Tomb of Diavolino”. In the surroundings there are also numerous graves that testify to the vastness of the ancient necropolis. In the town you can visit Isidoro Falchi Civic Archaeological Museum, inaugurated in 2000, which presents a wide collection of finds.
