Discovering Montalcino

Residence Park Solemaremma is located about 80 Km from Montalcino. This medieval town, famous throughout the world for its precious wine, Brunello di Montalcino, is a must if you love good wine. The town, which has remained intact since the 16th century, boasts a unique view of Crete Senesi, Val d’Orcia and the Tuscan countryside with its endless succession of hills covered with vineyards, narrow paths and isolated cypress trees.

Montalcino became famous thanks to the intuition by Ferruccio Biondi Santi who in 1888 had the idea of using the Sangiovese grape, instead of the classic vines implanted up to then, thus giving life to the worldwide appreciated Brunello.

The town centre of Montalcino boasts a classic medieval charm: it is dominated by the Rocca built in 1361, today often home to events like the Jazz & Wine Festival which takes place in July. Palazzo dei Propri and Piazza del Popolo with the characteristic Gothic Loggia are also worth visiting.
